Streetscape Enhancement
Guidelines
The Washington Township
Streetscape Enhancement Guidelines are recommendations
to help unify and maintain the Township's aesthetics
and community identity. These guidelines will
be utilized by the Washington Township staff
for public projects and are also available to
interested developers and residents.
These guidelines were developed
by Kinzelman Kline architects who have
extensive experience in landscaping architecture
and planning of streetscapes. They worked closely
with the Visual Improvement Committee and township
staff on a comprehensive analysis of the township's
streetscape corridors, intersections and individual
gateway entry sites.
If
you are interested in learning more about the
guidelines, standards and recommendations, contact
Dave
Douglas, Township Zoning Inspector.
| Gateway Signs |
| Consideration of gateways,
entries and edges of Washington Township
is extremely important due to their capacity
to leave a first and lasting impression.
While each location is different in terms
of prominence, visibility and site conditions,
all of the gateways should appear as if
they were conceived as a cohesive grouping
of entries with common characteristics.
These designs should include similar signage,
plantings, lighting and hardscape materials.
The signs shown below are possible variations
to be located at major entrances into the
township. |
| Typical Intersection
Improvement |
| The intent
of the intersection improvements is to provide
a more aesthetically pleasing intersection
and improve the safety of pedestrians and
drivers. The plan demonstrates how much
the typical intersection clutter can be
reduced. Street names shall be hung from
these mast arms as well to aid in visual
recognition of the crossing streets. |

Bus Stop Enhancement
The installation of
bus stop enhancements along the corridor
will provide safe and convenient pedestrian
access to the stops.
