Special Rescue Services
When it's buried, up high,
lost, in the water and more...
Lt. Terry Trepanier explains K9 Rescue with the assistance of his dog, Woody.
In the early days of the Washington Township Fire Department, rescue services were recognized primarily as ambulance transport. Through the years, however, rescue has become a very technical skill. It can entail maneuvering into tight spaces to free a trapped victim, stabilizing collapsing walls in a below ground trench, or searching for survivors in buildings rendered unstable by explosions or natural disasters.
Many members of the department participate in specialized training with a county-wide technical rescue team. Others learn vehicle extrication techniques while training on the job. Some coordinate canine (K9) rescue teams as members of the regional rescue team.
Through each effort to acquire more skills, the members of this department provide the community with yet another valuable service.
