Zoning Commission & Fiscal Officer Posts

Posted on Jan 26, 2018

Washington Township Trustees are accepting applications for two posts, a Fiscal Officer who oversees and safeguards township funds, and a Zoning Commission member. Find information here about the positions and how to apply.

Fiscal Officer Post

Washington Township Trustees are accepting applications for the position of fiscal officer to fill the unexpired term of Tom Zobrist who has announced his retirement.

Responsibilities include overseeing and safeguarding township funds, working with trustees, and overseeing the maintenance of township records. The appointee will serve from mid-April until the next elected fiscal officer takes office on April 1, 2020. Residents will elect a successor to the post in fall 2019.

Zobrist has served as Washington Township’s fiscal officer since 2004. During his tenure, the township has earned high marks from the Auditor of State who has consistently issued unqualified opinions recognizing the township’s financial statements and accounting practices.

Application Information

Residents of Washington Township, both incorporated and unincorporated, may apply by submitting a letter of interest that includes relevant past professional and volunteer experience. Deadline for first consideration is 4 pm February 23, however the position will remain open until filled. Letters may be sent to Township Administrator Jesse Lightle at: jesse.lightle@washingtontwp.org or Washington Township Government Center, 8200 McEwen Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45458. For information, contact Finance Director Mike Barlow at 433-0152.

Zoning Commission Seat

Washington Township residents who want to get involved in local government are invited to apply for an open seat on the township’s five-member Zoning Commission.

Commission members are appointed by Washington Township Trustees who are looking for a diversity of backgrounds and previous successful volunteer experience.

The Zoning Commission is charged by the State of Ohio with making recommendations on land use to the Washington Township Board of Trustees. The commission recommends changes to the township zoning map and Zoning Resolution, the legal document that controls and coordinates land use in the township’s unincorporated area, and makes recommendations on final development plans for construction in Planned Development Districts. Zoning Commission members serve five-year, staggered terms.

Application Information

Residents of unincorporated Washington Township who are interested in applying should submit a letter of interest that includes relevant past professional and volunteer experience. The deadline for first consideration is 4 pm February 9, however the position will remain open until filled. Letters may be sent to Township Administrator Jesse Lightle at: jesse.lightle@washingtontwp.org or Washington Township Government Center, 8200 McEwen Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45458. For information, contact Development Director Ryan Lee at 433-0152.
