No February meeting.

Guest speaker Linda Madden from Washington Township Recreation Center gave a presentation about a “Butterfly Playground” at Countryside Park. The concept would be a creative nature playground that would fit the goals of Thomas Stolz. The playground would have mounds of earth and tunnels to play on and crawl through. The death of Yukta Garg gave impetus to the playground. Financing would include several resources; the auction of large painted butterflies (6’x7’) could be sold to raise funds. Linda also stated that the Township has pledged $50,000.00 of “seed” money for the playground project, and the Gargs have been slated memorial donations for the playground as well.

VIP members discussed other aspects of the project after the presentation, they agreed the concept was very good but other factors also needed to be considered.

There were no questions in reference to January’s meeting.

Discussion of the Beautification Award sign resulted in the agreement that the signs should be placed closer to the roadway for visibility.

Master Gardener’s contract is being reviewed by the law director for the township.

Yvonne Dunphe updated the status of the plantings. Many perennials did not survive the winter. The flower order for 2007 is prepared. “Pinks and Blues will be the primary colors with burgundy and silver accents. Mike Wanamaker requested that Yvonne should try to reduce the cost that was submitted.

Cheryl Mauer presented photos of the cemetery fence on Southwind Drive along with pricing and a brochure of decorative fencing.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:30

Respectfully submitted,

Mike Wanamaker
