Visual Improvement Program

Washington Township , Ohio

October 12, 2005

3:30PM

VIP members present: Marlene Tiernan, Chairperson; Gordon Dodane, Mable Leyes, Angela Hodson and Bob Harrington. VIP Consultant, Sandra Spees and Mike Wanamaker, Public Works Manager were present. Guest, Robyn Livesay, Account Manager, DPL Energy, was present also.

Wanamaker introduced Livesay. She reviewed possible light poles and fixtures that are available from DPL Energy. DPL Energy, Miami Valley Lighting, currently holds leases with Washington Township. DPL Energy owns, maintains, and pays taxes on the lights leased to the township. The Government Center median on McEwen Road is to be redesigned and will include lighting.

Leyes moved to approve the Regal fixture, the Augusta pole and arms. Tiernan seconded. The move passed. Wanamaker will present median design to Livesay for proposal. Livesay will provide cost information for committee review.

The committee was asked to consider time change for the monthly meetings. After discussion the VIP committee did not move to change the time: 3:30PM, the second Tuesday of the Month.

November 7 th is the trustee’s meeting at which the annual beautification awards are to be presented. A reception will precede the meeting. Committee members are asked to be present at 6:30PM.

The December committee dinner will be held on December 15 th. The Paragon Club was suggested as the restaurant for the dinner. Tom Toberen, Mary Zdesar, and Mike Wanamaker are invited, also.

Spees reviewed various work she has done and gave an update on plantings in-process in the township. The two islands north of Route 725 on Paragon Road will be complete when the nursery supplies Grandma’s Gardens with the shrubbery and trees. Because of extreme heat and very dry weather this summer, digging trees by nurseries is being done later than usual.

The soil at Yanks Court is found to have nutrient deficiencies. Spectrum Analytic tested soil samples from the area. Appropriate nutrients and compost will be added to the beds. To clean the area and improve its appearance, pruning of current plants and adding perennials and/or shrubs will be done in 2006.

Plants for the 2006 installation have been chosen and quotes will go out soon.

Entryway signage and landscaping at SR 725 and Miami Township will be sent out for bids/quotes from landscape architects when surveying is complete. A new sign was installed on Yankee Road at Warren County. Spees will work on a landscape for the area.

Lt. Terry Trepenier of Fire Station 42 requested assistance from Spees to help with the landscape around the station. Both are working on that.

Spees developed a landscape design for the Heritage Meter & Regulator Station located on Route 48 just south of the old fire station.

Harrington asked about the repaving done at McEwen Road and Alex-Bell Road. Wanamaker will investigate.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:00PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Sandra Spees
