VIP members present: Marlene Tiernan & Sarah Stanton Co-Chairpersons; Gordon Dodane, Bob Harrington, Mabel Leyes, and Cythni Fraley. Guests included Mitzy Lowery. Township staff member present: Mike Wanamaker. Sandra Spees, VIP Consultant was also present.
Members viewed prints of beautification award nominee properties and voted on their selection.
Harrington moved to accept minutes as written. Leyes seconded. The motion was passed.
Spees gave an update on landscape work and garden workshops.
It was suggested that the trustees be invited to the emerald ash borer program to be held September 7, 2006.
Mrs. Miller, a township resident, donated several bags of daffodils for use in the township. They will be dried in the stock room at Hithergreen Senior Center. The bulbs will be distributed for planting at Hithergreen, Fire Station 45 and given to attendees of the fall planting workshop.
Wanamaker discussed the Route 725 bus stops. Quotes are in. Leyes moved to accept the modified version of the earlier proposed shelter. Stanton seconded. Five members voted to accept the motion; there was one abstention.
Wanamaker told the members that the proposal for lighting the Government Center Median on McEwen Road will be presented at the next trustee’s workshop.
The work on plans for Woodbourne Cemetery and Park are on hold until the cemetery association provides input.
The Miami Township entryway sign design was sent to companies for architectural drawings and construction information.
Yanks Court will be worked on during the fall of 2006 and the spring of 2007. Some of the trees/shrubs will be removed. The landscape will be reworked to provide better maintenance and the soil will be amended.
Leyes moved to add three small landscape beds at the corner of Whipp Road and Far Hills Avenue. Tiernan seconded. The motion was passed.
Spees contacted Jackie Curl regarding the design of the banners. She will include an article and photo of Sandra Drain in an upcoming Township Quarterly. In addition, Wanamaker noted that there will be additional banners placed around the township.
The date for the 2007 garden workshops will be changed to the last Wednesday of the month.
The tree tags for the list of trees submitted by Vinnie Keane of Countryside Park will be completed by Arbor Day 2007.
A Master Gardener who has worked on the garden workshops suggested creating a calendar of garden work for workshop attendees. Stanton moved to create a calendar that highlights the township with photos of township flower beds. Dodane seconded. The motion was passed.
