Last year 20 eye-catching residences and businesses received Beautification Awards from Washington Township's Visual Improvement Program (VIP) Committee.
Nominations for Beautification Awards are accepted through the end of summer, according to Tom Toberen, deputy administrator and VIP staff representative. The awards are based exclusively on nominations from the public, including friends, neighbors and spouses.
"When people beautify their property, the whole neighborhood wins," explains Toberen. "When properties are beautified, property values are enhanced and the neighborhood becomes more attractive and desirable."
Citizens who make up the Township's Visual Improvement Program (VIP) Committee plan to recognize up to 12 Award of Merit winners each month from June through September. Award of Merit winners receive a certificate and a mug and have decorative lawn markers placed on their properties identifying them as winners.
The same properties will be considered
for a Beautification Award which recognizes individuals
and businesses that, by improving the appearance of
their property, have made an outstanding contribution
to community beautification. Properties are judged
according to:
* Design of green space (Use of plants, color, texture
and space)
* Curb appeal
* Maintenance
Winners receive a matted certificate with a photograph of their home and are recognized at a Washington Township Trustee meeting and reception.
