help them remain safe when they are in, on or around water. Classes follow American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program criteria and are taught by certified Red Cross Water Safety instructors. The six-level program covers aquatic skills and knowledge in a logical progression and addresses the personal characteristics of each swimmer, such as varying ages, body sizes, knowledge, skills, learning styles, personalities and experiences.

Participants learn a variety of strokes, including the front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly. They are also introduced to a wide range of personal safety skills and diving techniques. Courses are fun and interactive with hands-on training. More advanced-level students refine their skills, learn the basics of springboard diving and discover how to incorporate swimming into a life fitness plan.

placement into lessons and provide each child with an evaluation form that's required for registration.

Who should be evaluated? - Children who have missed a session should attend because their skill level may have declined since their last class. Fun With Me, Preschool I and Level I enrollees do not require an evaluation.

How does it work? - All evaluations take place in the large pool. Have your child in a bathing suit with a towel and go to the marked bleacher area nearby. Print your child's name on the evaluation sheet and wait for the number in the upper right hand corner to be called.

Swim Policy

Class Levels - Children may only be placed in classes that correspond to their current skill level. If children have not recently been in a class, their skill level may have declined and they should be checked on Evaluation Day for correct class placement. Children who are registered for the wrong class can be transferred into another class level if there is an opening ($10 transfer fee). If an opening isn't available, there will be a 50% refund.

Swim Evaluation does not register your child for swim class - Check the registration schedule for the dates and times to register.

  • Bring a current class certificate or completed evaluation form to the first class; it may be requested if there is a question about your child's placement.
  • Class placement also is determined by the child's grade level in the current school year. Preschoolers must be the correct age on 1st day of class and must be potty trained.
  • Participants may register for one class per session.

Waiting List Policy

Our goal is to service as many patrons as possible. When waiting list numbers indicate need, classes will be added if instructors and space are available.

  • If you are registering on-line with Rec Trac and need to be placed on the waiting list, please follow the prompts.
  • Every attempt will be made to contact you at all phone numbers given. If we fail to reach you, or cannot leave a message, we will call the next available person.
  • After verbally committing to a class, patrons have 24 hours to reserve the class spot by paying in full. After 24 hours and no payment, the name will be removed from potential class roster.
  • A $10 transfer fee will be assessed if transferring from a previously registered class.
  • We do not transfer siblings or friends to the new class offered.
