Counselor in Training (CIT) Program

Our Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program is a hands-on training experience that gives teen campers ages 13-15 valuable insight into the role of a camp counselor. Under the guidance of a camp director, CITs will develop decision-making and problem-solving skills by assisting with daily activities and camper care.CIT

Requirements

  • Participation in the CIT program is by selection.  Teen contacts CIT Coordinator Sheila Russell ([email protected]) and submits a 500-word essay on why they want to be a CIT.  If selected, parent/guardian pays the camper registration fee. 
  • CITs that take the Trailblazers Extreme Camp will receive a 50% discount on each week they are a CIT.
  • Volunteer service hours will be given to the CIT at the completion of the program.
  • Applicants must be at least 13 years old at the start of their CIT session.
  • Applicants must possess a genuine interest in recreational youth development and in working with campers ages 3-9.
  • CITs must be willing to commit the required energy, enthusiasm, and positive attitude to all aspects of the camp week.
  • CITs will participate in all camp activities and field trips.
  • CITs will be assigned a position with our younger campers.  They can also be assigned to help with morning and evening Extended Care if requested at no charge.

Optional

Attend our new Trailblazers Extreme Camp. Campers will get trained in first aid and CPR, review pool and kayak safety skills and participate in leadership and team building activities. Campers will also learn crafts and games to engage kids, go on two field trips, review the basics of child development, programming, conflict resolution skills and more. For more information contact: Sheila Russell at 937-432-2802 or by email at [email protected].
