Each year, the Centerville Noon Optimist Club honors two police officers with the John P. Kalaman Respect for Law Award, established in the memory of late police officer, John Kalaman, who was killed in the line of duty in 1998. The award honors local officers who have exemplified the contributions made by law enforcement toward the betterment of our community. 




deputy petryOne of this year's recipients is Deputy Jonathan Petry of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. Nominated by his peers, Deputy Petry has demonstrated selfless leadership, commitment to the community and dedication and passion for his job. As the Community Oriented Policing deputy, Deputy Petry takes the initiative to build relationships with businesses and residents throughout the Township and has been active in enhancing community engagement by participating in a variety of programs. 

In 2020, Deputy Petry fed hundreds of Centerville School students with the MCSO Community Resource Trailer and dropped off supplies to residents in need. He is always volunteering to assist with local events and has assisted multiple Washington Township residents in receiving the mental health resources they need through MCSO's Crisis Intervention Team. As the liaison for this team, Deputy Petry works closely with the case workers assigned to Washington Township where his passion and commitment to the program has helped ensure its success through the past year. 

Deputy Petry is an active member of both the Miami Valley Crime Prevention Association and thetownship group photo Ohio Crime Prevention Association. He is constantly pursuing professional development opportunities to better himself while continuing to improve the communication and services he provides to the community.
