Beggar’s Night

Beggar's Night for Centerville/Washington Township is 6 to 8 pm Thursday, Oct. 31, rain or shine.

Parents will want to assess the weather that night and decide if it is appropriate for their child to participate.

The date and time for Beggars Night is set by the Greater Dayton Mayors and Managers Association and its member cities. By adopting the same time, local jurisdictions increase the likelihood that motorists will be aware and use caution. Many, but not all, jurisdictions follow the time set by the association.

Beggar’s Night takes place every year on the same date and time.

Have a Safe & Happy Halloween

They’ll soon be knocking at your door – Spiderman, Wonder Woman, Minions, Star Wars characters, and the ever-popular parade of ghosts and goblins, to name a few.

Motorists are urged to use extra caution on Beggar’s Night when children roam their neighborhoods in search of treats.

To help make trick-or-treaters more visible to motorists, School Resource Officer Gary Fulwiler hands out reflective bags to second graders who take his class on Halloween safety. Fulwiler also encourages parents to reinforce these Halloween safety rules with their trick-or-treaters, whatever grade they’re in:

  • Make Sure You’re Visible - Wear reflective clothing, use a flashlight, and carry a reflective bag
  • Have an adult in your group, and walk with them.
  • Look both ways before crossing the street
  • Only go to houses that have their outdoor lights turned on
  • Only accept candy if the adult in your group approves it
  • Wait to eat candy until you return home and your parents have checked it

More Halloween safety tips are on the CDC's web site.
