McEwen Road Has Reopened

The rehabilitation of the McEwen Road Bridge over Holes Creek is now complete and McEwen Road is open to traffic.

The Project

About 6,900 vehicles a day use the three lane, four span slab bridge. The Montgomery County project was initiated because due to deterioration which had resulted in reduced load restrictions since 2016.

The project consisted of jacking and temporarily supporting the slab end spans to allow:

  • reconstruction of the deteriorated abutments on existing steel piles
  • repair of the pier pile section loss at the waterline
  • protection of the pier piles with concrete encasement

The contractor removed and replaced the deteriorated slab edges, performed a deck overlay, and installed new twin steel tube guardrail on east side and a parapet wall with a new 5’ sidewalk on the west side.

Washington Church Road Bridge Replacement

A bridge replacement by the Montgomery County Engineer’s office on Washington Church Road was completed in the fall. The bridge is located north of Lyons Road near the dead-end of Washington Church where SICSA Pet Adoption agency is constructing a pet adoption center and headquarters.
