Washington Township is pleased to announce that Mike Thonnerieux has been given selected for the role of Township Administrator. Thonnerieux succeeds Jesse Lightle, who resigned in January, and Development Director Ryan Lee, who served as Interim Township Administrator.
Thonnerieux comes to Washington Township from the City of Beavercreek, where he currently serves as the Director of Public Administrative Services and is responsible for multiple divisions including engineering, street maintenance, traffic, cemetery, buildings and grounds, fleet, parks, recreation, and culture, the Beavercreek golf club, and the senior citizens center.
“In addition to a highly skilled and qualified candidate, we were looking for someone with a strong understanding of our community and of local government management and its multifaceted dynamics,” said Dale Berry, Township Trustee President. “Mike brings a breadth of experience on similar issues and opportunities that confront Washington Township. His knowledge of property tax funded government agencies is advantageous, he has a proven track record in local government, and values active listening and respectful dialogue,” Berry added.
Thonnerieux currently serves as the co-chair of the Chuck Dickerson Memorial Scholarship fund, a board member of Universal 1 Credit Union, a member of the International City Managers Association, National Parks and Recreation Association, and the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association.
”As a former Washington Township resident, a graduate of Centerville High School, and former employee of the Washington Township RecPlex, we believe that his familiarity with our community will help make for a smooth transition. Mike’s experience in economic development, community programs, and responsible fiscal management will greatly benefit the Washington Township community and provide strong and steady leadership for Township staff,” said Berry.
Prior to his current position, Thonnerieux served as the Director of Parks, Recreation, and Culture for the City of Beavercreek. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University, and his Master’s degree from the University of North Carolina.
“I am looking forward to serving Washington Township and continuing to improve the quality of life for residents by developing partnerships, collaborations, and promoting the Township at the local, regional, and state levels,” said Mike Thonnerieux. “I will work alongside the elected officials and staff to continue providing the high-quality level of service that residents have come to expect from Washington Township. I am excited to be returning to Washington Township and becoming an active member of the community.”
