Jeff Papanek Receives Respect for Law Award

Jeff Papanek, retired police director for Washington Township, was honored with the John P. Kalaman Respect for Law Award at the May 7 meeting of the Noon Optimist Club of Centerville.

As police director for five years, Papanek oversaw daily operations of the Washington Township Substation, including road patrol, detectives, a school resource officer and a traffic officer. During that time, OVI enforcement became a model for area communities and the closure rate for open cases remained well above the national average. Deputies also identified critical safety issues faced by local seniors and responded by establishing the highly-effective STAR Program for at-risk residents.

Papanek also made it a high priority to reach out to the local community with comprehensive school safety programs, community education, and crime prevention programs that included Neighborhood Watch, Business Watch and Walker Watch.
