Grants & Development

The RecPlex is committed to responsible financial stewardship and utilizes grant funding whenever possible. Below are some of the current projects that your RecPlex is working on with the help of grant funding.

Countryside Park Bass Lake Revitalization and Water Access Project
In partnership with the Land and Water Conservation Fund, the RecPlex will be working to revitalize and restore the Bass Lake observation deck, dock and outbuildings. Over the years, these structures have deteriorated and are not fully accessible. Additionally, the area is serviced by a single port-a-let instead of permanent public facilities. Goals for the project include:

  • Ensuring and expanding safety, access and comfort for all patrons
  • Protecting the lake
  • Meeting the needs of the community
The existing wood observation deck, dock and adjoining outbuildings would be replaced by two kayak launches, one of which will be fully ADA accessible. These launches increase access and simplify water entry.

A boathouse will be installed to serve as a base of programming and rentals as well as storage for water-based sports and fishing activities. Additionally, an ADA accessible Green Flush vault toilet building will be installed with running water and exterior and interior lighting.

The RecPlex has been awarded $125,693 from the Land and Water Conservation Fund for this project, with a requirement for the Township to match 50%. LWCF is a federal program administered by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the RecPlex has previously used funds from LWCF to help develop the existing Butterfly Playgrounds in Countryside Park. In the Needs Assessment Survey conducted through the 2021 Strategic Plan, the community identified expanded access to water sports and fishing amenities as one of their top needs. This project will allow the RecPlex to meet those needs while also maintaining a healthy habitat for aquatic species, wildlife and human interaction.

Countryside Park Turtle Pond Revitalization and Mitigation
Ohio Department of Natural Resources Natureworks Grant

The Township has applied for $150,000 in state funds from the ODNR to facilitate dredging and revitalization of the front pond along SR 725. The project would include removal of significant sediment deposits that have all but completely filled the pond over the past decade and return it to the prime fishing and birding spot it once was. Plans include dredging, bank erosion control, installation of a sediment catch basin or forebay and addition of a controlled outlet that will reduce the erosion behind the RecPlex while elevating the level of Turtle Pond. Finally, installation of an accessible fishing pier/boardwalk would provide increased access to fishing and bird-watching opportunities for those with limited mobility.

These funds will be combined with levy and additional state and local grant dollars toward the estimated $396,000 cost of the project. Estimated completion time is between 2022-2023.

This project is addition to and complements the Bass Lake revitalization project planned for 2022, which is funded through the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Together, these two projects will restore environmental and aquatic health to Countryside Park's unique watershed and enhance access to water sports, fishing and wildlife viewing.

Centerville-Washington Foundation Grant for Town Hall Renovations
Town Hall has recently received a $3,000 grant from the Centerville-Washington Foundation to help fund the planned renovation of Washington Township's Town Hall auditorium. The grant will be combined with $6,500 in private donations and a generous $86,445 Community Block grant.

Planned renovations include replacement of existing seating, refurbishing floors and carpeting and replacing stage draperies, curtains, etc. It also includes installation of a wheel chair lift to provide full access to the stage and upgraded handicapped seating. These improvements will enhance our abilities to expand programming options at the venue including senior enrichment programs, community events and rentals in addition to our core youth theatre programming.
