Recreation Advisory Board

When Washington Township purchased the South Suburban YMCA in 1988, one of the first orders of business was to create a Recreation Advisory Board.

Since that time, the Rec Advisory Board has helped steer the Recreation Center through three decades of tremendous growth -- including multiple building expansions and countless new programs.

When the Recreation Center considers a new policy, building expansion, or any significant change in procedure, the proposal first goes to the advisory board. "Board members are dedicated, active users of our facilities and programs who help us maintain an ongoing dialogue with our user community," explains Mark Metzger, recreation facilities director. "From its inception, this board has provided strong support for our mission and facilities, while ensuring that our members have an active and inclusive voice."

The 11-member board meets quarterly on the third Thursday of designated months. Trustees appoint nine "at large" members who either work or live in Washington Township. Four other slots are appointed by Trustees upon the recommendation of Centerville City Council, the Centerville-Washington Park District, Centerville City Schools and the Washington-Centerville Public Library. Board members serve annually-appointed, staggered three-year terms.

Citizens who wish to offer their opinions and ideas about the Recreation Center and its programming or who are interested in serving on this board are encouraged to call the Rec Center or contact a member of the advisory board.
