Volunteer Boards

Washington Township is currently recruiting volunteers to serve on our various Boards and Commissions! There are open seats on the Rec Advisory Board, Zoning Commission, and Board of Zoning Appeals. If you have unique and qualified experiences that would make you an asset to our team, we invite you to complete the application for the Board or Commission that most interests you.

Applications are due by December 1 for first consideration and will be reviewed internally. Applicants who are selected will have an interview with the Board of Trustees on December 16.

Citizen boards and commissions are vital to the operation of Washington Township. The township's four citizen boards advise and rule on matters related to zoning and development, support and advise officials and staff on recreation services, and help to beautify the local community.

Board of Zoning Appeals

This judicial body rules on variances and conditional uses and on interpretations of the zoning resolution and zoning inspector. Members are appointed to overlapping five-year terms and meet at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday.

Visual Improvement Program

The VIP Committee helps ensure preservation of the natural beauty present in the township. Projects include overseeing public flower plantings, visual improvement awards, Christmas decorations and other beautification activities. Members serve four-year terms and meet on the second Wednesday at 3:30 pm at the Government Center..

Recreation Advisory Board

The board acts as a liaison between citizens, staff and township trustees, reviewing facility concerns and making recommendations to trustees. The board includes members from other public entities and citizens who serve four-year overlapping terms. Meetings are on the third Thursday of odd months at 5:30 p.m. in the RecPlex
