Street Maintenance, Repair & Improvement

Street Maintenance, Repair & Improvement

Washington Township's Public Works Department oversees the construction, improvement, and maintenance of more than 150 miles of Township roads.

This includes sidewalks, traffic signs and signals, curbs, gutters, and the storm sewer system within the public right-of-way. The total number of lane miles is about 321.

The department also manages contracts for the annual street improvement program, sidewalk projects, some street rehabilitation programs, and road improvement projects.

Please note that some roads that run through Washington Township are maintained by the state, county, or City of Centerville. Those roads are listed below.

Street Improvement Program

Each construction season, the Public Works Department schedules street improvements based on annual visual inspections of all Township streets. Crews monitor older pavements and curbs as they near the end of their useful life and plan maintenance until the streets are scheduled for resurfacing or other infrastructure improvements.

During inspections, crews evaluate pavement surfaces and edges for cracking and wear, assess ride quality, and rate the overall condition of each street. They also review the condition of curbs, sidewalks, storm pipes, and drainage systems, which affect pavement performance and project costs, and consider nearby streets and neighborhood traffic levels. The department uses these observations to determine resurfacing schedules and forecast future infrastructure needs.
