Community Risk Reduction Division

The Community Risk Reduction Division provides plan review for new construction as well as renovations of existing buildings. The Fire Department works closely with the Washington Township Development Services Department, the City of Centerville Planning Department, and the Montgomery County Building Department.

Inspection services include annual inspections of all businesses, churches, schools, and restaurants within the City of Centerville and Washington Township. Services also include home inspections for foster and adoptive families and tent inspections for outdoor events.

Tent Inspections
Are you planning to use a tent for your outdoor event? Any tent over 900 square feet or with an occupant load of more than 50 people requires a permit.

• Tents shall be located in compliance with the requirements of the Ohio Building Code.

• There should be at least one fire extinguisher installed and maintained, and the Fire Department is to approve the location.

• Exit signs should be provided with the tent.

• Cooking devices, open flame devices, fire or heat are prohibited in all tents and must be at least 20 feet away.

• Smoking is prohibited within tents.

• Tents shall be adequately roped, braced, and anchored to withstand the elements of weather and prevent against collapsing.

Fire Department educational services include CPR and Stop the Bleed classes, fire extinguisher training, and a variety of educational visits and station tours with students from schools in Centerville-Washington Township.
